"Camp Fire shows need for early detection: How tech and artificial intelligence can help"

The Forest Fires that have begun to burn down in Paradise, California have caused huge problems for the people in the area and the atmosphere itself.  As the fire grew close to the roads, the people of Butte County were in a rush to evacuate and had to abandon their vehicles. New tech can help try detect these fires earlier and possibly give the people a chance to leave with their belongings and avoid death. According to Jim Crawford early detection of these wildfires will be they key to save lives of many. Also according to mercury news it states "had burned more than 113,000 acres and destroyed thousands of structures — is one of more than 5,600 wildfires that have burned more than 829,500 acres in California so far this year." These major fires begin to spread like a virus and destroy everything in their path. Most of these fires are founded by 911 calls but no one really knows if it was burning before because most of these fires are in hard to see places.  Right now the fire agencies use cameras to monitor but the systems are not based on real-time and the resolution isn't the best either.  A lot of people are looking into using artificial intelligence to help resolve the location of these fires and warn the fire agencies before it gets worse. For an example the Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite uses National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration weather satellites and fire-detection algorithms to try and help detect these fires. A scientist named Alex Koltunov who is well versed in remote sensing had been trying to optimize the data processing to help detect the fires as soon as possible by working on the systems algorithms. He also says that we cant just rely on one artificial intelligence tool, but instead its a collaboration of humans, government agencies and technology.  Also in the article it states "He found the system, for which he used a year’s worth of fire data from around the world, to be nearly 98 percent accurate in detecting fires" This still still will take years to perfect and create to solely find fires off the satellite. My position in this is that technology is always evolving every year that this is not far from impossible and creating this will help a tremendous amount for the California fires that are still happening today. This article was very interesting because i thought we already had enough to scout out these fires but there is some improvement we can make to these satellites and make them more accurate.
