Lab 11

Image
During lab 11 we now took the favicon we created and added it to our website tab. In order to do so we created a duplicate of lab 9 and label it lab 11, so it can continue with the same layout of a page. After this we then coded into the <head> tag a link to our a favicon image so that it would appear on the top tab. If my favicon was larger than 17x17 I would have to specify the size of my favicon by adding an addition code in the link called size="28x28". Including a favicon into your website is very beneficial because it calls attention to it and people can remeber your website due to the icon. A Favicon is usually 17x17 or 28x28 small icon. Favicons are fairly useful because its easier to remember a picture than to read all websites names. Most popular websites all use them because it creates a fast visual search, which helps your target audience faster and simpler. To ensure the best looking website and efficient having a favicon allows you raise brand awarenes...

Lab 10

Image
During lab 10 we had to create a copy of lab 9 favicon for our website.  A favicon is a a small image that is paired up with a website and appears on the side of the tab. A. For lab 10 we had to create an External CSS by creating an external stylesheet. We opened up a new CSS document in DreamWeaver that allowed us only to code using CSS tags and styles. I pasted the same styles from lab 9 into the StyleSheet. With this we then started writing the styles of each element, so that way we can edit them in the stylesheet. External  CSS works differently than the inline styles and Internal CSS because both of these would be inside the  HTML Document either inline or using the style tag, but the External CSS is a stylesheet that gets linked in the <head> tag. Once you create a style in CSS there is a selector for the elements. For example you can select the body and edit it as a whole by writing in the Styles Body {}. This selects everything in the body and will style...

Lab 9

Image
During lab 9 we had to create a favicon for our website. A favicon is a a small image that is paired up with a website and appears on the side of the tab. We created our favicon through an pogram on code.org that allowed us to color in  the pixels of our favicon. After this we saved the image of our favcion and created a new HTML document. For lab 9 we had to create an internal css by creating a style tag in the head. With this we then started writing id's for certain divs, so that way we can edit them in the styles tag.  CSS works differently than the inline styles that you would normally use in HTML. Once you create a style in CSS there is a selector for the elements. For example you can select the body and edit it as a whole by writing in the Styles Body {}. This selects everything in the body and will style it. As well as selection ID's or Classes from the HTML code. CSS is very important for describing a presentation of a website by implementing colors, fonts and layou...

"Getting smartphones to create 3-D indoor maps on the go"   Scientist have begun to build a software that will allow your smartphone to build a 3-D map on the go. The map is designed with camera of the phone and motion sensors to create a 3-D image. This innovation will save tons of time because you will be able to navigate inside of buildings and learn what is the closest bathroom or what the entrance is to a room. In addition people can create digital tours of their home before its up for sale. “It has the potential to become the Google Maps of the indoor world, and this is where we spend most of our time” said Professor Roumeliotis. They believe that this program can be part of google glasses and be implemented into Augmented Reality, which means you see the real world but the computer displays helpful information in front of the real objects. This is a revolutionary plan and will soon be real-time mapping. I believe this will have a great effect on the world beca...

"Camp Fire shows need for early detection: How tech and artificial intelligence can help"     The Forest Fires that have begun to burn down in Paradise, California have caused huge problems for the people in the area and the atmosphere itself.  As the fire grew close to the roads, the people of Butte County were in a rush to evacuate and had to abandon their vehicles. New tech can help try detect these fires earlier and possibly give the people a chance to leave with their belongings and avoid death. According to Jim Crawford early detection of these wildfires will be they key to save lives of many. Also according to mercury news it states "h ad burned more than 113,000 acres and destroyed thousands of structures — is one of more than 5,600 wildfires that have burned more than 829,500 acres in California so far this year." These major fires begin to spread like a virus and destroy everything in  their  path. Most of these fires a...

"Scientist Hope To Bring Nature To Your Phones" Scientist and researchers have placed dozen of hidden sensor nodes, microphones, and cameras in the nature preserves. The sounds and movement that these sensors pick up go directly to an AI that can connect this to the identity of whatever that animal may be.  The goal of it is to help better understand the climate change and help improve the restoration of wildlife. They also wanted to help create this virtual reality of marshlands with creatures  invented at a computer science lab. As we keep improving these cheap and sturdy sensors we will soon be able to apply the inter-connected network into the natural world. These cameras can be placed in nest of birds or caves with bats and help monitor these wildlife that are close to extinction.  The senors are able to monitor the temperature and moisture of the environment.  Scientist want to use these sensors to bring a deeper understanding of nature remotely. The app...

"A robot scientist will dream up new materials to advance computing and fight pollution" Robots are now trying to create new man made materials or robot made. The process of this will begin with a robot taking a pipette and dipping it into a dish transferring a tiny amount of a liquid back to one of the receptacles. Once the samples are complete the second making will feed the information to a computer that controls the robot arm. This software then analyzes results and creates hypothesis to see the compatibility of this new product. This setup was created by Kebotix which is a self driving lab combined with AI to complete the new advanced chemicals without human interactions for a faster rate. The company believes that this machine can find new compounds to absorb the pollution of cities and the world.  The main purpose of this robot is to improve the way we design chemical compounds to an increasing rate. The way Kebotix works is that the company will feed the machine ...

How Are Favicons Created?

Lab 8 Reflection

Image
During this lab the main goal was to create flash talk movie about one of the topics that we researched about.  A flash talk movie is a brief speech or presentation, intended to grab the attention of the audience and convey key information in a quick, insightful, and clear manner. The point of this flash talk was to describe in 2 minutes  the importance of the Internet and the effects on people and society. The three main topics given to choose from were Net Neutrality, Internet Censorship, Advanced option: Protocol Vulnerabilities and/or hacks. The topic I chose to talk about in this video was Net Neutrality. Net Neutrality is “Net neutrality is the principle that Internet service providers treat all data on the Internet equally, and not discriminate or charge differently by user, content, website, platform, application, type of attached equipment, or method of communication” (Wikipedia). This means that we as consumers of the Internet we are to surf freely among the web with...

HTTP in Action

Image
Today in class we began to embark on learning the waterfall effect of a websites network. A "waterfall" chart or diagram is thats lets you see the series of action of a user and the server to view a specific part of the site.  Waterfalls are very crucial for a web designer because it will show you why the webpage you are creating will take longer to load and how to manage the speed. The waterfall in this picture is taking around 1000-2000ms of details it has to load in because its a news website so they are many articles, videos and pictures to load in. Most browsers allow you check up on your websites activity using the developer tools on the top right.  Also in the chart it includes colored bars on the right.  Each color represents a different type of connection:               Dark Green=DNS Lookup: This is when the browser looks up the domain.               Orange= TCP connecti...
