"A robot created by Washington State University scientists could help elderly people with dementia and other limitations live independently in their own homes." The Robot Activity Support System uses sensors to determine where the residents are, what they need and what they are doing. The robot navigates itself through the rooms and provides video instructions on how to do things and can also lead their owner to objects they need. The CASAS researchers have been developing smart technology to help elderly with memory or other impairments. Once the smart home sensors detect a failure in a human activity or task the, RAS receives a message to help. The RAS is programmed to take medication with food and water. water plants and get ready to walk the dog. The person can then control through a tablet interface what they wanted to see, or ask it to do a task. The tablet interface were easy to use. The group still wants to upgrade the RAS performance with older adults to see what prompts, video reminders and preferences they need to add to the robot.
